North Carolina has a rich history of civil disobedience, which, in and of itself, is quite an intriguing phrase; because much of our disobedience of late has been anything but civil!

One way that North Carolina celebrates those most important of happenings in our history - including "uprisings" against unbridled authority - is by deploying roadside historical markers.  

Qualifying for historical marker status in North Carolina is not an easy task; it is a highly selective process. Recommendations are closely vetted; only the key, significant milestones in North Carolina history pass muster.
