Jim, the math is fairly easy, even for us CU CEOs. Here are your very own data points:

Which trade has the best board of directors: NAFCU.
Which trade's board makes the best decisions: NAFCU.
Which trade has the best in advocacy and regulatory: NAFCU.
Which trade is less expensive: NAFCU.
Which trade is more focused: NAFCU.

I can even do this "new" math!

Which trade association's CEO gets up early each morning to read Blaine's Blog and be the first to respond? NAFCU

I see it completely differently:

Which assoc had a diverse task force? CUNA
Which assoc didn't listen to their task force? CUNA
Which board of directors continues to make crap decisions? CUNA
Which board is forcing credit unions to pay two assocs (CUNA&League)? CUNA
Which assoc has highly paid executives providing no leadership: CUNA
Which assoc is much more expensive? CUNA

What am I missing? Any CEO worth their salt can see what the problem is. The real question is, will the credit union CEO uphold his/her fiduciary duty and not stroke a check to the assoc that is providing absolutely no choice or value?

ha ha ha! I'm pretty sure there are a couple thousand CEOs that get up early that read Jim's blog besides NAFCU's Berger. More likely, a couple thousand CEOs really ticked off at CUNA. If I was Berger I would just sit back and watch all this unravel and not say a thing.

The answer to the CEO/salt question is no. Remember CUNA and the leagues are part of the buddy system. When a CEO expresses displeasure because he is feeling that CUNA or his league is not paying enough attention to him, they find out what he likes to do. Is he a golfer? Does he like baseball or football? Perhaps he likes to be wined and dined. When that determination is made, an emissary is sent out to deliver the booty.Game day tickets, a case of wine, dinner on the town or a a couple dozen top notch balls. Once done and the salt-less jellyfish is happy, he writes the check for the next years dues.

Chairwoman Streiffel should be required to answer publicly to her peers and constituents.

How were the issues decided? What was the vote? Why another ad hoc committee?

I'm leaving my cu at the end of this year to try and help smaller shops THRIVE. I've been a league-cu for numerous years, and it used to make sense, but only if you availed yourself of the opportunities. The smaller you are the more you need the help. Well, now you pay more dues, AND for the additional help. And, because the back-room stipend to the Leagues has been removed, they are looking for more dues. I was told they haven't raised dues in a long time as an excuse. The economy hasn't changed for the good in an even longer time, and small shops feel the squeeze of tighter margins more... as in the difference between profitability and loss. We don't have a $10 to $25 million dollar bottom line to work with... more like $10 to $25 without all the extra zeros.

I took a gander at the NAFCU dues and they are about 1/4 my projected League/CUNA dues for next year.

I'm thinking of trying NAFCU out for a year or so... and use the savings to either purchase individual training opportunities or push it to the bottom line.

Seems to me, if enough cu's voted with their feet for a year or so, the League/CUNA group would have to accommodate; no?

JimBob, why don't you ever pick on the paid leadership? Nuusle is where the buck ought to stop and the feet be held to the fire.

Me think CUNA Chairwoman Susan Strifel ought to get back to her Woodstone FCU (charter #:60613) March, 2015 reporting negative income of $168,000. June, 2015 reporting negative income of $250,000. Doing all this with assets of $97M and Net Worth of 10.25%. Susan if you can't run our own shop with a positive bottom line you sure as heck have no right leading the National Trade Association. Step down. Step aside. Let's get some savy credit union CEO with a healthy bottom line to run this organization. And Susan look at cutting your operating expenses at Woodstone. I have a suggestion...your association dues seem a bit rich. Contact NAFCU perhaps they can help. It could happen. Don't you owe it to your credit union members? Or do you simply report to the credit union kool-aid club?

Does anyone think Nussle even had a clue at the mess he was stepping into? And does anyone really think he has any idea what to do now? The league vultures are circling. They can smell the meat cooking. And do not think any of those pompous predators would be any better.

What?!?! Nussle is paid over a million dollars a year. Before anyone takes a job of that magnitude you conduct due diligence. He either knew or should have known the lay of the land. No excuses. Rise up. Show some leadership. But unfortunately it's likely too late.

CUNA is the titanic, stay on the ship or don't. This has been an amazing couple of weeks.

As the CUNA board of directors busy themselves re-arranging the deck chairs!

Interesting to follow all this.
What possible justification is there for Cuna membership ...
...or Nafcu?
Nafcu because it's cheaper?
No results is still no results.
Why pay anything?
Explain to your members what THEY benefit.
You CANNOT.
