Corporate Governance...

ANY POTENTIAL SIMILARITIES?

IN TOUCH?

Draw your own conclusions...

CUNA clearly has a few "bugs"
in its "programming"!*

[CUNA: Cute, but...  Time for a "Trade"-in?]

Unfortunately the CUNA farm club is very weak. Should any of the wannabes step in, nothing would change. Have any of you spoken to one of these league presidents. The only reason they survive is because they have the ability to bamboozle the CEO's of the credit unions who drink the kool aid they are given. Nussle talks about his close relationship with Speaker Boehner. Big difference between the two. Boehner actually delivered against all odds and resigned for the good of his country and party. Don't count on Nussle to do the same. There is no honor among thieves.

Mr. Blaine — do you have any Google analytics showing your site's traffic and patterns? At a glance, this looks like a handful of malcontents pissing in the wind. I suspect you might have a wider reach than that. I, for one, would like to see how far that reach is.

About that last "Mr. Blaine..." comment...

First it's fairly amusing that the request was made anonymously!

Second, I agree that if you read the comments enough that several consistent "personalities" (although anonymous) do clearly emerge. As you say, not too sure there is much value in continually running over a dead cat.

But equally, what does it take to have an open, honest (polite) dialogue with a trade association or regulator? Recent experience whether during listening sessions, at "show and tell" trade association meetings, or in front of Congress would indicate that our leaders are either indifferent to or afraid of the followers - not exactly a beneficial relationship.

Haven't invested in the analytics package but the norm is the blog reaches all 50 states each week (think the Ukrainians have given up on trying to hack the site!), there are about 50,000 weekly page views , 2500 or so "chronic" readers, and 80,000 unique visitors over the 3-4 year life of the blog.. average session time is between 2-3 minutes. Most readers speak english, more women than men, more young than older.

Hope that helps....

That's a lot of piss in the wind, Mr. Leggett! (just guessing!!) While I try to always use my name, I do appreciate being able to hide behind Anonymous from time to time. Perhaps we should use Avatars so we can be identified as the sender of more than one note. That's better than replying to anonymous #3 on xyz date.

Personally not too concerned about the anonymous comments.

It's sorta like any "social media", some good, some not so, but... we're all adults...

Well, mostly...

Hope all will feel free to comment, add a point of view, perhaps ask a question.. suggest paths toward improvement for all players in the CU world... a lot of folks are counting on CUs to be around and very viable in the future.. that's not a given... especially if we sit still.

Hey Google analytic s commentator. My name is Jason M. Dias. My phone number is 830-708-4609 and you can call me any time during the day. I will be happy to tell you what happens on my radio show when Mr. Blaine is our guest. He is has been right about CUNA all along and was most likely CEO of SECU when you were still a smile (or frown) on your daddy's face. Call me, I know you have read this and have the guts to use your real name.

Can anyone share with this CU CEO what CUNA has done for the CU community lately? Don't bring up the not-for-profit tax exempt status. Even CUNA can't milk that forever. How we doing on RBC (Risk Based Capital)? Dead. Secondary Capital? Kaput. Regulatory Relief? Zilch. Annual Examination Relief? Cooked. Fact is CUNA has done precious little of late. And how has HR1151 worked out for the group. At last count the # of credit unions is about 6,000 and falling like a rock. Fact is CUNA provides no benefit to the credit union and none to the membership. But, it makes the CU community feel good supporting a trade association even if there is no quid pro quo in return. We support CUNA and CUNA does little to support the credit union. But they lobbyists get paid quite well. And at CUNA GAC they give away nice trophy, plaques, and certificates to one another as part of the on going mutual admiration society. Surely someone out here can provide a defense to CUNA. CUNA did o.k. back in the day of 25,000 credit unions. Now the biggest of the group have quit CUNA. And at last count the few still standing must do a cost-benefit analysis and that will cause a red rectal bleed once they realize it don't compute.

To Full of P&V in CA:

While I find the comments to Jim's blog post entertaining, I don't have a dog in this fight regarding CUNA's corporate governance.

Also, when I comment, I use my name.

So … as the person who left the 'pissing in the wind" comments, I'd like to respond to a couple of things:
First, I'm glad that Mr. Leggett weighed in to clarify that I'm not him.
And my comment isn't against Mr. Blaine or the blog. As a matter of fact a agree with many (not all) things that he posts. But as a casual observer showing up here, it can look like a small group of unhappy people. That's why I asked about the traffic. As I suspected there are a lot of people showing up here to see what's up. The reach of this blog is significant. Not every bloviator with a blog can claim that. I like that this information is out there to see. I find it helpful.
Regarding the anonymous comments: They are allowed here. I'm sure Mr. Blaine can change that if he chooses. I am not the CEO of my organization much less the CEO of a CU over a $1B in assets. I do have a dog in this fight. But many that I collaborate with don't agree with Mr. Blaine. I'm happy to be able to show my support while not jeopardizing my position. It's a political world.
Finally, Mr. Dias, I'm well aware of you, your show, and your phone number. I'm content to follow along and weigh in here and I'm also hoping for "honest (polite) dialogue."

Would confirm that over the years have found Dr. Leggett to be very transparent, on the record.

'Course always thought the good doctor was fulfilling his only legitimate opportunity in the bank vs. credit union wars; because It is a lot easier these days to retain your academic integrity by attacking the CUs, than by trying to defend the boinks!

Can lose face pretty quickly defending the "too-big-to-give-a-rips"!

Dog in the fight. You don't have a dog in the fight. My guess is you have never fought for anything. As long as you hide behind a spineless anonymous name nothing you support or want to challenge will ever change. Time creates more converts than reason. Stop being a scared little girl and be proud of what you like and don't. We will all respect you more when you do...but most likely wont.

I think pissing in the wind is Denise Wyemore.

Jason,

First of all, you've misspelled my name. It's Denise Wymore.
I have never been nor will I ever be anonymous.

This is mean spirited. I know you like the controversy but please be a gentleman.

Sincerely,

Wymore, check. I think the use of the term mean-spirited is hyperbole. I did not say it was you, I said it think it might be you based upon reading many of your comments over the past decade. And I am a gentleman. I have never used one profanity in any comment or on the air in 6 years or at the 400 CU events I spoke at. Why don't you take that great wit and persuasive voice of yours to encourage these anonymous folks to use their real name the way you and i do? CU pros are afraid of an honest debate, because I keep running circles around them. So they block twitter accounts and hide behind unknown comments. You are a good egg Denise, but no one empowered you to decide what is mean spirited and what is not. CUNA wasting its members money should upset you more than anything I say. If you think I need to be dressed down, you are always welcome on the show. jmd

Might I ask for a "Now, now..." moment on behalf of the rest of us - both anonymous and not so?

Thank you.

Yes.You are right of course Mr. Blaine. I am southern and latin. It works for my wife (of 20 year this month) but not always in these socratic debates. Ms Wymore, if I was ungentlemanly, mia culpa.
