Summer Soldiers and Sunshine CU Leadership....

"The hottest places in Hell are reserved for those who, in times of great moral crises, maintain their neutrality."

- John F. Kennedy
 (June 24,1963)

Congratulations to all our "wait and see" leaders!!

.... the kind of leadership who will always find one more excuse not to
(or never to) walk across...

... today's "edition" of the Edmund Pettus Bridge.

The RBC comment deadline is April 27th; have you crossed that bridge yet?

The fear of what is waiting on the other side causes me to be slow in my crossing.

Originally from Dante's Inferno, but still a great quote.

One can easily tire from listening to our credit union "leaders." Perhaps they should consider following the words of Donald McGannon who said "Leadership is an action, not a position."

Guess since we're doing quotes/references should make sure to point out the blog title is a reference to Tom Paine who's pamphlets were read to George Washington's troops in the midst of winter at Valley Forge:

"These are the times that try men's souls; the summer soldier and sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service to his Country; but he who stands it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman."

Hope you can stand it!

Credit Union Leadership? Where? Who? Other than you the bench is pretty empty now a days!

Don't think that's true. Credit unions have a wealth of leaders... many, many fine, experienced folks ready to move beyond the mamby pamby, mumbo jumbo of the current morass.

You know there really are millions of credit union members, volunteers and staff who truly believe that CUs are the way forward in consumer finance.. the best answer, the right alternative. And, the facts - especially over the last 5 years - seem to back those beliefs up!

For the those who are the designated leaders why not make the call: lead, follow or get the... well you know the rest!

I believe the commenter who is looking for leadership means it is not found amongst our national associations or federal regulator. Yes there are many courageous leaders in the industry dedicated to their credit union and its members. Unfortunately, like with our major political parties, they chose to stay in their environment to do as much good as they can and shy away for the national scene. As as our country suffers from the lack of leadership so does our credit union industry.
