Unite For Kumbayah !

Last night was up in Maggie Valley, a scenic retreat in the mountains of North Carolina, for a meeting of the Western N.C. Chapter of credit unions.  As with most chapter meetings, the food was great, the camaraderie was wonderful, and the speaker was terrible - one of those rambling pontificators, if you know what I mean.  Most folks were texting two minutes in...

But during the Q&A, the discussion veered
Is there life after hawg?
around to the issue of taxation, which seems once again to be on the minds of many credit union folks. Personally, have never been much concerned with the threat of a "profits" (income) tax on a "not-for-profit" credit union and have actually taken some joy in imagining that taxing credit unions would mean that Keith Leggett and the ABA would either have 'to get a life" or go out of business.  But, then again the one thing the Country doesn't need right now is yet another banker on Federal welfare...

Where the folks at the chapter meeting ended up was "being volunteered" (like I said the speaker was one of those "not much to say, but won't leave you alone" types...) to give their 30-second "elevator speech" on why credit unions should not be subjected to the profits tax.  Our individual and unified responses were neither great works of clarity, eloquence, nor coherence - and several of us had had over 25 years to practice!

Unite For A Nice Day !
But, just when all seemed lost, someone suggested that we should simply "UNITE FOR GOOD." Suddenly we all felt much better, our reason for being became obvious.  We "kumbayahed", "high fived" and headed out  for home relieved and reassured.

It was an amazing, uplifting,  thoroughly gratifying experience - much like the speaker!

Sounds like the speaker was the CEO from CUNA our fearless leader Bill Cheney. Please continue to pay your CUNA dues to support such a worthwhile trade association that has done so much for the credit union community. Surely, without the sense of direction from CUNA the NCUA would be at a total loss for leadership moving forward.

O.K., O.K..... so the speaker was from REALLY, REALLY CLOSE TO HOME... but you can't prove a thing; he could have been my evil twin....
