The sad reality is Matz adamantly believes she is doing a good job as NCUA Chair. In her mind, critics just don’t understand the good she has done. A sadder reality, NCUA “management” thinks it knows better than the collective industry management what is best for the credit unions. NCUA actually thinks it, and not hard-working credit unions, led us back from the brink of the corporate CU crisis. We are supposed to overlook the fact that NCUA enabled the corporate failures costing the industry Billion$. The saddest reality in credit union land is we must endure Matz for at least another year, and no end in sight for real leadership change at NCUA.
This is the sad reality of the "Fatal poison of irresponsible power!" It lets the people holding the irresponsible power believe that they are doing a GOOD thing!
Can not say what makes Ms. Matz so disagreeable? However, NCUA staff is a different story. Pretty certain that most Examiners are pretty decent humans when the join NCUA, and truly wish to do a good job during their career. They succumb to the NCUA orthodoxy that does not allow for any thinking that is not inside the NCUA box. The fatal poison of irresponsible power takes hold of good people because of the NCUA has a system of rewards for strict adherence to the play book, and punishment for not thinking inside the NCUA Box. Many highly successful credit union leaders have come out of NCUA after they refused to drink the poison. The drones that stay at NCUA are the best bomb droppers!
And you wonder why Ms. Matz did not allow a second comment period?
